Default Testing for mods?

I have been hearing about people testing weapons for mods. How do you test for mods and why would you test for mods?

Its very simple actually , lets take a 30HP mod to make it east.

You have a gold sword that is unidentified you take one empty weapon slot (F1) and see how much health and energy you have , lets say for testing purposes you have 500 HP and 25 Energy.

You put the sword in weapon slot F2 and you switch to it, you will notice that now you have 530 HP, seeing this you now know that the weapon has at least a +30 HP mod on it.If your energy were to go to 30, you know you have a +5 Energy sword at least.

Now for the other mods, you go to isle of the nameless with the following skills: A enchantment , a stance and wild blow.

You go to the test dummies and choose one , i would choose the 60 armor one but it doesn't really matter.

Hit it with wild blow and see how much damage you do , lets say you do 50 damage. This will be your base from where you will be testing.

now you put the enchantment on yourself and hit one of the target dummy with wild blow and see the damage that you do, if you do 58 damage , you will know your sword has a +15% damage while enchanted.

You repeat this process for the Stance one and you could do the same in a scrimmage with a friend using a hex on you to test for a +damage while hexed mod.

Also for while above or below weapons you could either bring a vamp weapon to lower your hp down to 50% or bring some kind of sacrifice skill from the necromancer.

Also having a weapon with no mods on it but max , as this will most likely be the weapons you will be testing is very handy, that way you can use that to get a number without a mod, and when you use a weapon that is not identified with a +damage while health is above 50% you will know the weapon has the bonus , as long as the weapon is same kinda of weapon.

sword-sword
axe- axe
bow-bow

Keep in mind that what people are looking for when doing this is mods that have some decent value, so lets say a sword that has a +25 HP isn't good because it has no real sell value.

All weapons sold by bots/gold farmers are tested, same goes for most people who sell unids for wisdom title.

Testing is disgraceful IMO and should be snubbed out completely but yea the above post has it covered.

^ The post above basically explains the how. I'll answer the why.
People do this so they can make max profit on a weapon. If they know the weapon has bad mods (through testing) and no resale value after iding it, they will try to sell it unided (1k for unided golds or 20k+ for a rare skin that they are trying to sell unided to some new player who won't realize the weapon's been tested and therefore a rip off). If they know that the mods are good (15^50, rare skin, etc), they will be able to id it and then sell it for 80k+.
If they just tried to id it, they might get a lot of crummy weapons (14% while hexed for example) that have no value other then what they sell to the merchant for (around 300g).
